Wooden sunglasses are quite an established trend, but have you ever tried on a birchwood frame? No? Well, now you can thanks to Collezione Mobile, the latest eyewear collection resulting from the creative collaboration of fashion brand Nina Mûr with Italian company Abet Laminati – a successful combo blending the Spanish maison’s take on fashion accessories with Made in Italy skills and high performances in the field of plastic laminates.
It all started a few years ago, when professional duo and real life couple Lorena Serrano anche Davide Fichera joined up forces and personal design, communication, and optics-related upbringings to create a cutting-edge line of woodensunglasses. Frames are cut from sheets of Finnish birch wood, which is especially lightweight and refined, and later added a wide range of finishes and decors though ad hoc artisanal techniques. Natural wood is then paired with Abet plastic laminates aimed at making products more robust and easy-to-handle.
With a brand history going on for more than 60 years, Abet Laminati has been working side by side with numerous designers and architects (of the likes of Georgette Giugiaro, Ettore Sottsass, and Konstantin Grcic), who tirelessly researched into possible applications of laminate to multiple ends by enhancing its peculiar qualities and hypothesising successful matches with various printing techniques.
Bravely drawn to this new challenge in the eyewear business, Abel Laminati shared its know-how with the emerging Spanish brand while making several laminates available, including Polaris, the anti-fingerprint, scratch-resistant and soft touch surface. The result? A collection comprising 12 wooden sunglasses models and 8 colour variations bearing the name ‘Mobile’ as a tribute to the excellence of Italian design.
Nina Mûr is due to unveil its latest eyewear collection within the summer, while waiting for additional finishes and decors selected from the board range featured in Abet Laminati catalogue.
