Giulio Iacchetti designs The Cartalegno Dresser Collection
A series of Alf Da Frè storage units that are all about contamination between industry and craftsmanship
Cartalegno is the new collection of dressers designed by Giulio Iacchetti for AlfDaFrè, presented at the 2016 Salone del Mobile in Milan.
Understated and sober in his methods, yet volcanic in his across-the-board approach to industrial design, over the years, Giulio Iacchetti has developed a unique, unmistakable style identity, interpreted in many types of products and collections, all very different. His is a cultured, sensitive signature, refined and unconventional.
What Alf DaFrè and Giulio Iacchetti share especially is the idea that contamination between industrial production and craftsmanship is value added to creativity . This common approach to design has led to a special family of three pieces of storage furniture: the Cartalegno project.
Three individual, independent articles, three autonomous, versatile objects designed to dialogue with the products in the different Alf DaFrècollections in any room in the home, either in harmony or in contrast.
The Cartalegno project is the outcome of a creative approach with the theme of containing, in all its variants. The structure of the three units—base and frame—is solid beechwood while the shell is in longline finish Full-Colour (Abet Laminati), in white, yellow and grey. They have a friendly, familiar allure and are designed to contain, hide, collect, tidy and preserve. The cut-off corners reveal the frame structure in solid wood, the handles are set into the texture of the surface, recessed into the wood. These details show sophisticated creativity and an attentive, instinctively curious way of thinking about the design of things.
