California Oak Pass villa is located just outside Beverly Hills, on top of a ridge in a park of century old oak trees. Made of glass and concrete from Walker Workshop Design Build studio, the house uses its raised position, giving ample panoramic views on the trees and hills.
Developed on two floors, the architecture overturns traditional domestic arrangement, creating a living room on the upper floor, most exposed to sunlight, keeping the sleeping area on the basement level, realized within the slope.
A pleasant paved courtyard provides a fresh outlet for the sleeping rooms, while the living room area with glazed perimeter facing a green space, goes on a roof terrace with an infinity pool. The oaks that are reflected in the water seem to emphasize the relationship between inside and outside, in a meditative and quiet atmosphere.
Inside, the spaces are airy and bright. With the exception of the pair of Acapulco chairs positioned in the courtyard, the furniture is custom-made and solid, made of local walnut wood, which is in pleasant contrast with the more contemporary materials, concrete and glass, which guide the project.
