A weekend house in Spain

Designed by Cadaval & Solà-Morales, it is an example of contemporary architecture on the Catalan coast

Sunflower House is a sea-view villa for weekend breaks designed by Cadaval & Solà-Morales, in Port de la Selva, Girona, Spain.

The name is evocative and also very apt, as the villa, just like a sunflower, turns to the sun with its wide glass facades to seize as much of sunshine and heat as possible making the most of its relationship with the surroundings.

The Villa’s contemporary architecture is a cluster of cubic volumes, each cube featuring one side in glass orientated towards the sea. The cubes enclose an inner court sheltered from the wind. The upshot of this is an house with multiple perspectives in a strong relationship with the surrounding landscape. The interior is minimal: filled with natural light, the dwelling gravitates aroundthe living room on the first floor, showcasing a neutral chromatic palette with total-white walls and a grey micro-cement floor.

Furniture is contemporary, warmed up by vintage pieces like the two iconic Butterfly Chairs in the living room.

Custom-made furniture is white, likewise the spacious wardrobe of the sleeping area and the open-style kitchen.

The corner with the two Acapulco chairs by the glass window is the most loved by the owners: it is the perfect place to relax, reading a book, listening to music or merely enjoying the view.
