Check out all the hottest bathroom trends for 2018: ceramics goes wild

Bathroom flooring is halfway through innovation and tradition: all the 2018 trends recently staged at Cersaie are indeed a blend of avant-garde technology and more classical images which give a shout-out to the past from a contemporary perspective. Alongside wood and concrete-effect bathroom floors (this year’s roaring vogue), the recovery of natural stone, and the even broader-effect offer of synthetic agglomerates of natural stone, has definitely brought traditional Venetian Terrazzo back to life, whilst making use of contemporary chromatic palettes to recover old familiar atmospheres within our domestic daily life. Fancy an example? Le Veneziane di Cerim, the brand controlled by Gruppo Florim, which offers a refined interpretation of centuries-old materials through the use of large slabs.

Marazzi goes extra-large too with Grande, its latest collection of grey porcelain slabs echoing the rich patterning of raw materials like cement, and conceived to be 100% flexible and usable for wall & floor cladding and furniture.

Iris Ceramica unveils Cube, a minimalist take on stoneware resulting from a mix of tactile and visual effects that keenly mimics the patterning and texture of natural stone. The neutral chromatic palette ranges from white to beige, without  disdaining black, grey and coffee nuances. Slabs are sized 120x60cm and matchable with square/hexagonal mosaic tiles.

Ceramiche Ricchetti pursues its journey through high-end materials and delivers Marble Boutique, a priceless combination of refined finishes and details. The line draws its major inspiration from three types of white marble: Statuario White, Calacatta White and Lasa White.

An ode to the mix&match philosophy, the Connections02 collection by brand 41zero42 unfolds around four lines, Gessi, Gap, Hops and Supreme: just as many contemporary perspectives on totally different materials like shingles, chalk and marble. Coming in white, black and grey.

The inspiration for I Cocci, a brand new project launched by Fioranese, comes from the flooring recovered from an old country home in Romagna, dating back to the early 1900s, when cement was first used as a binder for renovation works, while bits of marble or recycled materials were employed as insets. The grain size varies depending on the size of the different pieces obtained from a single type of traditional white marble chips and white cotto. The mortar used is grey on the outside and white at the core, and the collection features a base tile with the same “gravelly” pattern present on the decorative element. Also, keep an eye out to Argillae and Montpellier, which evoke the irregular patterns of terracotta and recycled stone, respectively.

When wood-effect flooring meets delicate decors: here’s Kasai by Ceramiche Refin, a collection inspired by Yakisugi, the traditional Japanese method of woodworking through burning. The burning of the slats also creates a particular crazing effect on the wooden surface that gives the material an exclusive, contemporary style. Kasai is sized 25×150cm and available in the shades of Carta (Paper), Fumo (Smoke) and Notte (Night).

If you are more into essential, geometric and minimalist bathroom layouts, Refin’s Grecale and Zefiro stoneware collections coming in five natural shades are also definitely worth a try.

Sant’Agostino hazards some daring configurations by launching a more radical take on the traditional Venetian Terrazzo, now available for wall cladding too.

Luxury bathroom floor is the name of the game for Italian brand Roberto Cavalli Home Luxury Tiles, whose striking couple of fresh new collections got inspired from the maison’s fashion world: see the textile prints and embroideries used in clothing which imbues Precious Wood, along with the strong references to nature masterfully translated into the Natural collection.

Villeroy&Boch plays with sizes and graphic effects to enhance its latest collections Marmo Chic and Natural Blend, both devotedly inspired to the beauty of marble and natural stone. Pictured below, black&white optical patterns and horizontal motifs in delicate beige nuances.
