How to design fabrics according to textile designer Gretchen Bellinger
EMMA, versatile outdoor chair suitable for interior settings
Designed by Monica Armani for Varaschin, Emma offers multiple material and fabric combinations for seat, legs and backrest
Varaschin outdoor furniture has nothing to envy home furnishing’s comfort and design: A world-renowned Made in Italy excellence, the leading Venetian company openly promotes the “Outdoor Therapy”, meaning a fresh new lifestyle based on living outdoor spaces at their most all year round.
Nowadays, humans struggle with the growing difficulty to snatch some spare time for themselves to share with nature – stuck as they are with emails, calls, work and laptops –, to the extent that, according to a recent study, a 25% drop of proximity with nature has been witnessed over the last two decades in favour of a more sedentary lifestyle.
A change of direction is at least desirable: if people need to recover their tight link with nature so to enhance both their physical wellbeing and peace of mind, that is where Varaschin comes into play.
Advanced technology, solid materials, minimalist design, pure aesthetics and fine ergonomics are easily found in such outdoor design pieces specifically conceived to smoothly coexist with natural environments even in the harshest season.
A selection of versatile products, suitable for both contract and residential projects, were unveiled by three exceptional ambassadors on the occasion of the Milano Design Week 2017: Daniele Lo Scalzo Moscheri with Belt, Philippe Bestenheider with Maat, and Monica Armani with Emma.
Indeed, the latter introduced a truly interesting solution: a contemporary perspective on a chair of everyday use, EMMA is a familiar-looking piece of furniture which looks straight to the future thanks to the use of innovative technologies and cutting-edge details. Equally functional and sophisticated, EMMA is a great fit for indoor settings and outdoor gardens or terraces, and features a wide array of material and fabric combinations for seat, backrest and legs.
Legs are available in powder coated aluminium, natural iroko or painted ash wood, whilst the backrest is coming with or without armrest in three different versions: built in hand-woven synthetic fiber cord, Textilene or an outdoor waterproof fabric featured in Varaschin catalogue. You heard it right: EMMA is very much more than an outdoor chair!
