Straight from Taiwan, an idea for cat furniture that pairs perfectly with the contemporary home.
Taiwanese brand A Cat Thing has created a world within a world for our feline friends with specifically designed products and furniture.
The brand was founded by a couple of young architects looking to create a unique home for their four-legged housemates. Collaborating with friends, the couple developed a series of projects for a cat-friendly design that fit well within the confines of a contemporary home.
The first result was a collection of cardboard units for cats, Room Collection, a sort of small structure to entertain felines with spaces to jump, hide, rest, rub, and play with. Inspired by ready-made and Lego, the Room Collection is made of four modules that follow a similar layout for humans: bedroom, living room, balcony, and ramp. The small structure can be transformed and modified in size to offer complete freedom in creating a cat kingdom. Plus, the cardboard structures were designed to withhold the weight of any cat, big or small.
The minimalist project with basic geometric forms and graphics make the Room Collection a modern trend that can be adapted to the interior design of any living area. “We used the principles of origami to create connections and wedges that could hold the structure securely together without the help of other tools. This was also to keep the assembly simple and easy” says A Cat Thing.
Sustainability was a key factor in the design, and all products and confections are recyclable and composed of non-toxic materials.
