A selection of over 200 cutlery and tableware accessories – an ode to innovation, creativity, uniqueness – was conceived by a team of 22 international artists including traditional artisans and jewellery designers.
This one-of-a-kind collection has been freshly unveiled by e-commerce store Jouw in partnership with Dutch brand Steinbeisser, specialising in artwork-like experimental cutlery aimed at enhancing an utterly unusual food experience.
But let’s take a step back, and learn more about the online store which is currently listing this special line. Are you wondering why the name, Jouw? Well, not only the initiative was jointly triggered by Jouw Wijnsma and Martin Kullik, but “jouw” is also the Dutch word for “yours”, meaning that each available piece may actually become yours.
Back in 2012, Steinbeisser launched the Experimental Gastronomy Initiative, by engaging with illustrious chefs and artists in order to create some truly unforgettable culinary experiences. Designers and creatives have been giving shape to special cutlery, tableware and glasses ever since, so to pay homage to wild experimentations and unprecedented ways of eating food.
As a consequence, these pieces don’t follow the normal rules of usability. Instead, they challenge users to reconsider preconceptions about the relationship between tableware and themselves. They can be loved for their “thought-provoking” function, but also for their aesthetic sophistication.
A firm believer in eco-sustainability, Jouw offers strictly biodegradable products made of 100% natural, km0, recycled and reusable materials like wood, pumpkin, stone, steel, clay, and glass. Even the smaller parts of the items such as glue, paint and glazing, are organic and biodegradable.
All pieces available through the website result from exclusive artist collaborations with Steinbeisser; and you, just go on and enjoy our selection of exquisite handmade cutlery and tableware that really stand out for its unusual morphology and uncommon, almost primitive, charme.
