A new, pocket-size drone to take selfies from the sky
AirSelfie is the first portable flying camera integrated in a mobile cover that connects with your smartphone to let you take boundless HD photos of you and your friends
‘AirSelfie’, the new, cutting-edge compact flying camera that connects with your smartphone to let you take selfies from the sky
Though intriguing and beautiful, drones are rather unwieldy to carry around, ready at hand at the right place and time. Besides, they are fragile, expensive things that require further operations such as downloading and converting videos. A bit awkward, isn’t it? So it would seem, especially after the arrival of the AirSelfie mini drone, a 100% Italian project that has recently made a splash on Kickstarter and is quickly becoming a worldwide success.
The concept can be summed up as follows. Take a smartphone, put it in the right cover and you have your drone. Almost, that is. The drone is directly integrated into the cover, from which it can be easily be extracted. The smartphone, on the other hand, actually turns into a remote control.
Four turbo fan propellers powered by brushless motors and a 5 Megapixel HD video camera enclosed into an aeronautical grade anodized design aluminum case (just 52g!) plus an autonomous battery: these are the features that make AirSelfie a unique state-of-the-art device. Stable, clear, flowing images are guaranteed by the vibration-absorber system, while a micro sonar and a barometer pinpoint the position of the device from the ground (up to 20 meters!).

What really matters, though, is thet this remotely controlled mini drone is also extremely easy to use – AirSelfie knows that well. Once you’ve slipped your flying camera from the sleek case attached to your smartphone, the device can be switched on: AirSelfie is directly wi-fi connected to your smartphone. A dedicated app provides three different control levels: Selfie mode, that simply enables users to vertically move it; Selfie motion, that allows you to move the device according to the movements of your smartphone, at the same time checking the video/picture’s preview on the screen; Flying mode, thanks to which the AirSelfie, once it has reached optimum snapshot position, easily maintains it thanks to autonomous hovering.
Just say goodbye to unwieldy selfie sticks, then, and to old dear selfies where beautiful sceneries disappearing behind awkwardly posing faces. The future is enclosed into three words: drone iPhone cover. Thanks to AirSelfie, at last, you will have the opportunity to take otherwise impossible pictures from inconceivable angles. Your snapshots will be directly sent to your smartphone, ready to trigger your followers’ envy – and admiration.
