The green and sustainable Bar Botanique in Amsterdam is the first option. Its name says it all! Among the ornamental indoor plants, palm trees, philodendrons, monstera, and ferns stand out in the cafeteria designed by the Dutch Modijefsky studio. With their constant growth, they make the place always different. The “botanical” touch of the design is highlighted by the natural colours of the interiors.

Once a market (the metal structure is still visible), it is now a well-equipped co-working that looks like a greenhouse. More than 1,000 indoor plants have been arranged on winding tables that allow to enjoy privacy without renouncing to the strong identity of an integrated community. Thanks to the brightness of the place, plants grow lush – a workspace immersed in nature. The project by Spanish architects from SelgasCano within the Mercado da Ribeira, the oldest food market in Lisbon, was commissioned by Second Home, a British company founded in 2014 to promote the creation of co-working spaces.

In the heart of Hoian, in Vietnam, the Atlas boutique hotel’s façade in local stone is covered by an intricate tangle of evergreen indoor plants The project by Vo Trong Nghia Architects Studio is a 5-storey building with a proper cascade of tropical greenery springing from the walls. Among the roofs in coloured tiles and the shady inner courtyards reminiscent of the Chinese influence on this ancient town today a UNESCO World Heritage Site, this contemporary edifice uses nature to reconnect its history to that of the town.

Try to imagine a contemporary house in which one wall is replaced by mini domestic jungle of tropical indoor plants. A haven of nature, where the contrast between interiors and exteriors is erased completely. Albeit minimalist in spirit, the house nevertheless features contemporary details – they too related to nature - such as the big wooden folding shutters that, even when they are closed, let light in.
