Design mix for furnishings in the Brick collection by Gervasoni

Furniture that mixes Asian inspiration, Nordic influences and materials borrowed from industry. Designed by Paola Navone

Mixing design pieces in different styles, ideas and materials is a characteristic approach for Paola Navone, art director at Gervasoni. Curiosity drives her creativity. Her travels, the things she has discovered and liked the most always end up quite naturally in her projects and furnishings. This is her style code, the factor that ensures she is always recognisable even when her inspiration comes from distant worlds, as is the case with the Brick collection.

Presented in Paris 2013 at Maison&Objet, it was created as a new line of upholstered furniture, subsequently expanded to include a series of furnishings that mix Asian ideas, Nordic influences and materials with an industrial feel.

It all started with a series of sofas and armchairs, rounded out by the Brick 80 E bed. The collection featured all loose covers in lightweight fabrics. It was then joined by a family of storage solutions in five variants, with structure in American black walnut and doors covered in quilted textiles to match the upholstery of the furniture. This was followed by inspiration from South‑East Asia with the appearance of the wonderful Brick 32, 33 and 34 tables with their surprising hand‑carved bases in wrightia trunk sections and tops in sheet metal.

Ethnic inspiration also for the rigid woven parchment of the Brick 23 chairs, stretched over the lightest of structures in industrial‑feel tubular steel. A contrast that worked, as well as the one created by the Brick 133 tables, which mixed the polished aluminium of their bases with wooden or marble tops.

A decidedly more Nordic mood for the welcoming shapes of Brick 221 and 223 chairs and the organic lines of Brick 247 and 24 tables. They come with top in Carrara marble, solid wood or Green Beel, a special eco-friendly marble chip.

With Brick 79, Gervasoni added a new bed to its catalogue, featuring a buttoned bedhead that matched the Brick 63 storage containers.

In 2015 came more new entries, with the Brick 307 rocking chair, the Brick 228 tall bar stool and the elegant Brick 215 dining bench, all in a fifties style for sophisticated living rooms and informal dining rooms.
