Signing off on the latest Proper Hotel opening in San Francisco, Kelly Wearstler has designed the interiors of the west coast luxury hotel set to open in August.

The company lands in the “Paris of the west” with a mission: open the first luxury hotel in over 10 years in this part of California, the first to be included in the prestigious list of Design Hotels.

With a keen eye for mixing local culture with an international air, Kelly Wearstler seemed the natural choice to curate the creative spaces down to the very last detail.

The building chosen to host the luxurious hotel is a structure in the form of an iron, here in the Market neighborhood.

An area once frequented by the well to do, it later fell into ruins and has only recently found a new life. Avant-garde technology companies have settled in phenomenally restored architectural gems, while once booming theaters have been rediscovered, and art institutions offer up big promises with unique exhibits.

The Proper Hotel in San Francisco looks not only to curate an experience within its four walls, but rather to showcase the entire city. Rooms are set to sell thanks to the numerous local attractions and a penchant for everything innovative and hi-tech on the western frontier.

Kelly Wearstler, assisted by hotel developer The Kor, wanted to emphasize the buildings history and thus, the city’s as well, with a distinct touch of European glamour. The Proper in San Francisco becomes a mix of funky downtown vibes with a taste of the old world pizzaz.

The European atmosphere is evident in the entrance and lobby, restored thanks to local artisans. Vintage, pre-modern furnishings are scattered about to compose a nostalgic environment that charms and cheers between social areas and private spaces.

The lounge, one of the most distinctive spaces, sprawls in European style, inspired by Cubism and the avant-garde of the early 20th-century.

The 131 rooms above continue the homage to French and Italian tastes, where guests are surrounded by excellent aesthetic and quality. Aesop toiletries, Vifa speakers, Aireloom matresses, and Bellino linens set the bar high.

In the kitchen, visitors can enjoy the buzzed-about restaurant, directed by celebrated chef Jason Franey, or the lounge bar by Josh Harris and Morgan Schick of BVHospitality on the top floor.

Finally, the terrace is adorned with an elegant garden inspired by the floral and decorative motifs of the Viennese Secession.
