Salvatore Ferragamo: new opening in Beverly Hills
The new Californian boutique of the famous shoemaker is 30s inspired. A tailor-made project signed by the New York Studio Sofield
In Beverly Hills, not far from the first Ferragamo store opened in Los Angeles in 1923, the world's most famous shoemaker inaugurates a new boutique. A tailor-made design signed by the New-York based Studio Sofield.
"The idea of an historically coherent space, luxurious but simple, aiming to witness the relationship between the shoemaker of the stars and Hollywood, is the leading concept of the project" says William Sofield. Along the road boarded by palm trees, the shopping windows feature marble and travertine frames.
The interiors boast the relaxing elegance of neutral colors: cream, ivory and beige support the curvy lines of the art déco inspired furniture. "One of the less plagiarized eras by interior design. Squeezed between two World Wars and the Great Depression, it cuts off the unnecessary enhancing creativity and practicality. I retraced Ferragamo's steps in those years and I was inspired by his research of different materials and the surprising combinations of the poorest and the most precious ones". Quilted leathers and crystal rocks, varnishes, silver and golden leaves become interesting, within the shop, interweaving with straw, metal and, cork. Thoughts turn to orthopedic wedges and nylon sandals, the anatomical architectures conceived by the brand owner. "I admire technological innovation", the designer concludes, "and the capacity to jump the gun". Two steps forward, at least. — Salvatore Ferragamo, 357 North Rodeo Drive, Beverly Hills
