If you ever dreamt of losing yourself inside an Escher’s work, amidst irrational architectures and explorations of the infinite, a freshly inaugurated immersive installation in New York my be your (quite puzzling) cup of tea.

Please meet Amaze, an actual maze penned by Rafael de Cárdenas that offers visitors the chance of exploring colours, schemes, and low/high-pitched sounds through constantly-mutating perspectives and perceptions, alongside murmurs and noises.

Wether you are architecture enthusiasts or just seeking after a unique artistic experience, this mesmerising exhibitionexplicitly aims to stimulate the five senses.

Housed inside Soho’s Cadillac House and first launched by art/fashion magazine Visionaire, Amaze lets visitors experiment the wildest optical and hearing illusions, being surrounded by metal chain curtains, walls with bold geometrical patterns, and coloured windows altering the perception of light.

Born from the creative partnership between founder of Architecture at Large Rafael de Cárdenas and visual artist, music composer and singer Sahra Motalebi, Amaze is articulated into a dazzling array of spaces which the audience is asked to explore visually and sensorially, so to evoke a sense of confusion and familiarity at the same time.

For instance, users may enter a stylish hall-of-mirrors and, by switching on and off different buttons, make the see-through walls reveal ever-changing scenes conceived to disturb the human understanding of reality and space.

Such multisensory experience is paired with a vocal-only sound score by Sahra Motalebi, resulting from the synthetic manipulation of the sound of her voice (hysterical laughters included). Amaze will be on display until June 10, 2018 at the Cadillac House on 330, Hudson Street.
