More than just the best contemporary design, the upcoming Milan Design Week will also put the masterpieces from yesteryear on display for all to enjoy. That’s right, we’re talking about Leonardo Da Vinci’s The Last Supper. The Convent of Santa Maria delle Grazie will open its doors to the public every night during the Salone del Mobile 2018 (April 17th-22nd from 7PM-10PM) for a one of a kind chance to see the world famous fresco.

The number of visitors estimated for the special opening is set at around 3 thousand. Architects, designers, tourists, and locals will all be able to visit Da Vinci’s masterpiece, which has enchanted the world for the past 520 years. To this day, the iconic work is preserved in the Convent of Santa Maria delle Grazie, a UNESCO World Heritage Site together with Da Vinci’s fresco.

The legend behind countless wonders painted The Last Supper, one of his most celebrated works, between 1494 and 1497 on commission from Ludovico il Moro. Unfortunately for both him and us, the experimental technique used to paint the fresco was a failure, and has since proved a challenge to preserve and restore.

What better time to admire the work of Leonardo Da Vinci than during the Salone del Mobile? The renowned genius was after all, an artist, inventor, and designer before his time. His intellect knew no bounds and he excelled at “looking beyond”. For this, furniture brand LAGO has sponsored the special event and proposed their latest concept, “Never Stop Looking Beyond”, dedicated to the Renaissance man.

“An invitation to look beyond, just like Leonardo, who transformed observation and curiosity into his most powerful and effective tools”.
