PORADA: THE PASSION FOR WOOD
When Italian design encounters skilled craftsmanship
An international brand, an extremely wide customer base and, a universal language capable of making an impact in different countries and cultures. These are just a few of the strengths of Porada, theacclaimed Italian manufacturing company which has characterised its style by using solid wood and used the identity of the brand to make its mark worldwide.
The history of the company, based in Cabiate in the Como area, is a perfect example of the traditional Italian family businesses that sprang up in Brianza in the post‑war period. These were service companies in the furniture industry which turned into stable design companies, making their mark on new and foreign markets in just a few decades by developing a distinctive style and manufacturing ability that set them in good stead as a benchmark in the field of interior design and production.
Porada was incorporated in 1968 by Luigi Allievi who, with the help of his four sons, decided to continue the production of chairs that he had launched as early as 1948, extending it to other fields and investing in new technologies. Over the years, the company evolved quickly, following a precise strategy that aimed to extend the production. Today, the company manufactures an interesting range of modern, stylish furniture: dressers, mirrors, bookcases, TV units, tables and chairs.
Having won an award last year for 50 years of participation in the Salone del Mobile Furniture Show in Milan, the company stands out for the elegant, refined style of its collections, designed in such a way as to resist the influence of passing trends. In short, its furniture is made to last.
In the company’s philosophy, the human factor is an essential factor, the people who are part of the family which is the company, who treat the products as if they were their own, carrying out their work with the utmost care and passion, each and every day.
The result is a range of furniture made to be loved: all the Porada products, which are fruit of years of valuable experience in wood manufacturing, share several basic founding principles: a balanced mix of form and function, attention to detail, exclusive design and excellent craftsmanship.
Still favouring the use of solid wood, for some time now Porada has begun working with different materials, of an equally high quality: steel, glass, marble, leather, to create a wide range of products capable of interacting with different styles. This is the result of the company’s continuous research and development activity, and the effects can also, or indeed especially, be seen in its partnerships with designers such as Tarcisio Colzani, Marconato & Zappa, Opera Design, Giovanna Azzarello, Marelli&Molteni, Giuseppe Viganò, Gino Carollo and Stefano Bigi.
