A device to prevent smartphone dependance that will save your family Christmas lunch

Its name is Pause and its function is to let you forget about beeps and phone calls, to rediscover the pleasure of a good conversation

To save the Christmas lunch foam smartphone dependance you need something more than the good will of the participants. Its name is Pause and its function is to facilitate the detox from 'Captain Hook syndrome' that is making us completely dependent on beeps, vibrations, alerts.

How many times per minute (or seconds?) are you tempted to grab your phone, neglecting human relationships and offline conversation, as well as fragmenting more and more your concentration. Nowadays mobile connection has overtaken computer connection –51.26% against 48.74%– and as we are well aware of the undeniable benefits of smartphones in our lives, we also have to be objective on remarking the bad ones. Someone has decided to use design to help preventing the negative sides.

2014, an evening like many others in Tel Aviv, Yuval and Lidar Lazi are with their son at home: "Mum, dad, why don't you drop your smartphone and spend some time with me?". Suddenly awake from a digital sleep, the couple started to think about a device that could allow 'mobile-free' moments, in order to rediscover the importance and the beauty of being together with each other without interferences. After two years Pause was born.

The project, for a few days in pre-order on Indiegogo (where it reached almost half of its budget), is rather simple: an elegant aluminum box Wi-Fi and mobile wave proof, where six smartphones can be contained as long as you want no distractions in your environment. The founders have tested that silence mode and hiding your phone provide a different result and don't reduce the psychological stress. Pause improves brain performances and help to reduce tension.

The attempt to detox from your smartphone and save your family life costs 45 dollars, plus 20 dollars of shipping costs, but the product will be available only in March 2017. Maybe already too late for some of us?
