More than 100 events, designers from all over the world, and 3 young Italian ambassadors are set to delight visitors in the Brera Design District.

Now in its 9th edition, the new theme chosen to guide the district at Fuorisalone 2018 is Be Human: designing with empathy. Embracing the idea of what it means to share experiences, feelings, and new perspectives, Brera hopes to bring people together through design.

According to Laura Boella, professor of Moral Philosophy in Milan, “Empathy connects design with the world, that which is beautiful and useful with human nature, in perfect harmony, imperfections and all.” Through our shared experiences of design, the area hopes to communicate its message through presentations, exhibits, and countless events.

Mixing up this year’s program at the Brera Design District for 2018 are 3 creative and versatile ambassadors, each presenting their own projects around emotional design and the strong sense of empathy created between objects and people.

Cristina Celestino unveils the moving exhibit, Corallo: an old Milanese tram turned traveling theater. Elena Salmistrarotakes over Piazza XXV Aprile with Don’t Call Me…Dafne, envisioning the Timberland logo as an interactive plant with swings and a luminous beating heart. And Daniele Lago rolls out Never Stop Looking Beyond, with a series of exhibits, meetings, and workshops in the Appartamento Lago of Via Brera 30 and Casa Lago in Via S. Tomaso 6.

Elsewhere, the Brera Design Apartment in Via Palermo 1 returns once again between artisan furnishings and upholstery, all curated by Raffaella Guidobono. Celebrating the launch of Souvenir Milano, 12 artists have created original pieces in the first collection of objects with the city as a symbol. You can catch the limited edition works for sale during the Salone del Mobile 2018. Impossible to miss is the all new collective of 65 Brazilian designers and companies making an appearance throughout the district with pieces ranging from modernism to present day. And over at the La Pelota space, Vitra shows up with an exhibit curated by Robert Stadler.

Going green for the Hidden Garden project is the secret garden by Pierattelli Architetture, nestled between the skyscrapers of Piazza Gae Aulenti.

For all the techies, Brera Design District presents two new initiatives to the area this year. Woodie Milano, technology ambassador and pioneer of wireless cell phone chargers, will be scattered throughout the numerous showrooms of Brera to offer a recharge for visitors. Meanwhile, Brera has teamed up with Spotify to bring you an exclusive playlist dedicated to Fuorisalone. It’s the perfect soundtrack to explore the city with, just don’t forget your indestructible Crumpled Map, another original piece created for the occasion by Palomar.
